The parish of Sykehouse

is comprised of the village of Sykehouse and the hamlet of Wormley Hill, and lies between the rivers Went and Don to the north and east respectively, approximately 13 miles from Goole and 15 miles from Doncaster and 5 miles to access to the motorway system M62 / M18. The parish has a population of approximately 450 scattered over an area of 18 square km
. The main highway along which the majority of households are located is around 5 miles long with a network of narrow lanes leading off. Although the housing is scattered, a large proportion is located alongside the main road  through the village which also contains the Church, Village Hall and one remaining Public House which is currently subject to a planning  application for housing development.

Farming is mixed arable and livestock and still is the major local occupation but a number of farmsteads have converted to private use. The area has a significant equestrian interest with regular use of Sykehouse All-Weather Arena. Several haulage firms are based within the village and are major employers in the area.

The area is located within the Humberhead Levels with significant areas for wildlife and conservation with special interest in the Went Ings where there are designated SSSI sites.

There are many active organisations within the community including WI, PCC, Ladies Circle, Mums and Toddlers, Cricket Team, Show Committee, Village Hall Committee, Line Dancing and OAP Social Group. These groups use the Village Hall extensively for functions and meetings to organise many annual events  such as the Agricultural Show, Garden Festival and Xmas Fayre, which draw people from the surrounding areas.
